Gum disease treatment: deep cleanings and laser care.

MCDI treats gum disease with deep cleanings (scaling and root planing), which clean below the gumline, and laser gum treatment with our DEKA SmartXide CO₂ laser when it’s appropriate for your case. Your gums are checked at every checkup.

Signs worth mentioning at your visit.

Gums that bleed when you brush or floss, red or swollen gums, gums pulling back from the teeth, bad breath that doesn’t go away, or teeth that feel loose. These can have other causes; an exam tells us what’s going on.

What a deep cleaning is.

A regular cleaning cleans the teeth above the gumline. A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, removes buildup below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces so the gums can heal. Local anesthesia keeps the area numb. A deep cleaning typically takes two visits, depending on how many teeth need it.

Laser gum treatment.

When it’s appropriate for your case, Dr. Patel uses our DEKA SmartXide CO₂ laser as part of gum treatment. He’ll explain whether it fits your situation and what to expect.

Keeping gums healthy after treatment.

After gum treatment, you’ll come back for regular maintenance cleanings so we can keep an eye on your gums. These are typically every 3 to 4 months.
